Bethany Suckrow signed Urge Senators Alexander and Corker to speak up for LGBTQ people when the next Supreme Court justice is appointed 2018-07-11 08:42:37 -0500Senators, there are many reasons I’m concerned about the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh, including the need to protect marriage equality for LGBTQ citizens and Roe v. Wade for women. But I also do not believe we should confirm a nominee so close to election season, or before the Justice Department concludes its investigation of Trump’s relationship with Russia and how that impacted the 2016 election. Not to mention that Justice Kennedy is resigning under questionable circumstances regarding his relationship to Trump and Russia. Nothing about this nomination is fair, and it puts the rights of vulnerable people in jeopardy as a result. Please do not confirm him.

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy is retiring so the President will name a successor who must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. When the President announces his choice to replace Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, we urge you to speak up for the rights of LGBTQ people. It is vitally important that members of the Supreme Court support the principle of "equal protection" and that Justice Kennedy's successor uphold the existing rights of LGBTQ people and oppose discrimination against LGBTQ people. We respectfully ask you to raise these concerns publicly and not to vote for any nominee who supports discrimination.
